14th – 27th February
Laurie Lax’s show tested out new ideas both inside and outside the Test Space, combining different modes within her current practice. The first week was spent making a temporal work directly onto the walls using river silt collected from the New Cut, which flows just outside the building. This shape traced the outline of the space and informed a specially devised ‘walking drawing’ where participants traced the shape of the mud motif. They were given little maps for drawing / taking notes. Special thank you to Iris Hable for her directional flag-bearing performance.
Laurie Lax was born in Canterbury in 1987 and graduated from Bath School of Art & Design in 2010. Since then she has been based at BV Studios in Bristol, co-founded collectives Sondryfolk and DFW, and completed several residencies (Ireland, Sweden, Lithuania and Cumbria). She has exhibited nationally in London, Bristol, Canterbury, Folkestone, Chester, Dundee and internationally in Ireland, Poland and Germany and was recently shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2014.
