Settemsdal’s work examines the ungraspable nature of consciousness through investigating the parallels between cellular and crystalline structures. Fragile three-dimensional drawings that phrase intangible thoughts into physical objects are suspended in a transparent atmosphere or ether, and are explored through lighting and dissection in an attempt to draw out their meaning.
The pieces presented in this show imagine the process of cognition as an expanding organic structure, tracing the growth of a thought from its conception as a proto-idea to its formation into a much larger complexity.
