Simon Olley works with found imagery – often from books or the internet – to produce collages and videos that fragment and repeat to create new surfaces and meaning.
Collage works are made systematically by a process of scoring, folding and cutting up inkjet prints of photographs into small pieces. These fragments are then reassembled onto ply-board to make abstract forms, almost irreversible to their previous state. These abstractions begin to depart from the texture of a printed media and allude towards something more like Formica or cracked ground. However, significance lies in original subject matter. Ubiquitous moments in nature and particular density of the photograph lend towards their consistency and a notion of entropy taking hold.
Please join us on the evening of Friday 29th May from 6pm for a drink and a preview of the show.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
